John Ketcham

PRCA gold card member and past NFR team roper John Ketcham passed away unexpectedly at his home in Wiley, Colorado, on April 16. He was 66.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service, conducted by long-time friend, Rod Ahlberg, was held at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 22, 2011, at the Peacock Funeral Home in Lamar.

John was an avid team roper and horseman. He had a never- ending wealth of knowledge about horses, roping and all aspects pertaining to the rodeo world. He headed the Horse Training and Management program at Lamar Community College for 20 years, during which time he was also the rodeo coach. Many of today’s top cowboys have, in one way or another, had their careers influenced by John’s knowledge. John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen of the family home in Wiley. He was father to PRCA team roper Justin Ketcham & his wife WPRA member Sabrina Ketcham, who have two sons, Bridger and Pike; daughter Jody Jarnagin & her husband Jamie, who have 2 sons and a daughter, JaCee, Joseph and Jordan.

Per John’s wishes, a gathering of family and friends was held following the service at the Lamar Eagles, where fellowship, a memorial meal and refreshments were enjoyed.

A rodeo scholarship in Johns name will be set up at Lamar Community College. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Ketcham Memorial Fund in care of the Peacock Funeral Home, 209 S. 4th Street, Lamar, CO. 81052
