LCC Baseball Team Focuses on Conference Title

Lamar Community College Baseball took care of business on Wednesday, April 20 with a 4-3 victory over second place Trinidad State Junior College. LCC now is at 20-4 in Empire Conference play, while Trinidad drops to 14-8. With six conference games left, the Lopes need to win two of six to win back to back conference titles.
Sophomore Joe Wahl started and lasted five and one third innings, giving up five hits and allowing three earned runs in a no-decision. Freshman Dillon Moritz (1-2) picked up the win in one and one third innings, allowing no runs. Sophomore closer Brandon Ward-Hersee picked up his seventh save in two innings of scoreless work. At the plate, the Lopes pounded out nine hits with Garrett Yost going 3 for 3 with a home run. Bobby Lewis had two hits, and Mark Ortivez, Ben Lahn, Tim Zufall, and Jackson Gooch each picked up one hit.
The LCC Baseball team will not be playing in Scottsbluff, NE this Friday, April 22 due to predicted bad weather, however the team will still travel to McCook for a game on Saturday.
Next week the Lopes travel to Colby, KS for a makeup nine inning game on Wednesday. On Saturday April 30th the Lopes will travel to Sterling to play a makeup double header with Northeastern Junior College.
