Discussion for Four Day School Week Planned

The Lamar RE-2 Board of Education will hold a public forum to discuss the possibility of a four-day school week for Lamar Re-2 School District. The forum is set for Tuesday, May 3rd, at 6:00pm at the Lamar High School Auditorium.

The Re-2 school board directors broached the idea during a board meeting on April 18, and decided the matter warranted considerable discussion, especially from that segment of the community which would feel the impact for having their children attend school on a four-day, instead of a five-day week. The board has been dealing with a budget shortfall of approximately $860,000 for the 2011-2012 school year. Despite certified and classified personnel layoffs in the district and other cutback measures, some board members believe adopting a four-day week will generate budget savings.
