Injuries Result from Two Vehicle Crash at Shady Camp

Details are still sketchy, but several injuries resulted from a collision between a semi and a pickup /camper at the intersection of Shady Camp and Highway 50 Wednesday afternoon, March 23.  One eye witness stated the pickup, bearing Kansas plates, was westbound on Highway 50 when it collided with the semi which apparently was eastbound.  The left front bumper of the semi was crushed and a portion of the pickup camper bed was lodged under the carriage of the semi.  The windshields of both vehicles were crushed out, apparently from persons being thrown against them from the impact.  The camper shell was shredded like aluminum foil, lying on the north side of the highway, with its contents strewn along the north side of the road.  It’s not known how many were wearing seatbelts, but reports stated there was a driver and passenger in each vehicle.

A Lamar Fire Department ambulance made a run into town, carrying injured from the accident site.  The accident generated a multi-agency response, from CSP, Prowers Sheriff’s department, fire department EMTs and CDOT. Eastbound traffic was closed off on Highway 50 just east of Wal-Mart and westbound traffic was halted a few hundred yards east of Shady Camp.  Shortly before 3pm, alternating lanes of traffic were opened on the highway.
