Lamar Hosting Babe Ruth Softball World Series in August

Lamar, Colorado will host the Babe Ruth Softball 16 Year Old World Series, August 5-13, at the Lamar Sports Complex. Ten girl’s fast pitch softball teams will compete for the title of World Champions. The United States Regional champions from Pacific Southwest, Pacific Northwest, Middle Atlantic, Colorado State Champion, Southeast, Southwest, Ohio Valley, Midwest Plains, New England and the host city of Lamar will vie for the World Title. Pool play will determine the two teams in the final game to be played on Saturday, August 13.
“Lamar has a long standing history of being a major player in baseball and softball programs.” said Tournament Director, Athletic Director and Head Women’s Softball Coach of Lamar Community College, Craig Brooks. “After hosting the 2009 Cal Ripken 10 Year-Old World Series, we have demonstrated that the city of Lamar is a strong supporter of youth sports and knows how to host an event of this caliber. Citizen’s Field, a championship quality, full regulation field will provide both players and spectators with the best softball experience imaginable.”
The City of Lamar is in the process of completing an ambitious two million dollar Sports Complex. A full service press box with complete concession and facilities was completed last summer as well as the Cal Ripken field, known as Valley National Field, which hosted the 2009 10 year-old Cal Ripken World Series and Citizen’s Field, a state-of-the-art full regulation high school and college softball field. Opening ceremonies will be held at Lamar Sports Complex on August 6. The Banquet of Champions will be held Friday, August 5 at Lamar Community College Wellness Center.
