Want to ride along with a police officer or spend a shift with the ambulance crew? Maybe you just want to learn more about public safety in our community.
The Lamar Police Department is accepting applications to attend the Public Safety Citizens Academy which will start June 5th, 2014 and run until September 6th, 2014. This academy will include sessions devoted to Fire and Emergency Medical Services as well as the traditional Police classes. Once again, the Academy will start on June 5th.
The academy presentations will give the participants a basic understanding of the services provided by police, fire, and emergency medical services. The academy will run for 15 classes. Normally the sessions will run from 7 pm to 9 pm on Thursday evenings. The class will end on a Saturday with a live fire exercise at the police range, a BBQ, and a high angle operation presented by the Fire Department.
Applications are available now, and will be accepted until June 2, 2014.
If you would like to attend the 2014 Citizens Academy, please come by the Police Department at 505 S. Main Street and pick up an application. If you have any questions, please call the Police Department at 719-336-4341 or ask a Lamar Police Officer or Firefighter.
