At 1:22 am on October 31, fire personnel were dispatched to a possible gas leak located in the alley behind 205 North 5th Street in Lamar. Fire engine responded to the location to find Lamar Police on the scene near the gas meter. The meter was leaking near the inlet to the meter and was secured at the valve. Atmos Energy was contacted. Fire personnel left Lamar Police to investigate.
At 9:05 am on October 31, fire personnel were dispatched to a possible gas leak at Wal-Mart at 1432 East Olive Street in Lamar. They were dispatched due to a heavy gas smell near the Tire and Lube Express of Wal-Mart. Upon arrival at the scene, fire personnel found a strong smell of gas but nothing showing. Chief Cook located a gas meter at the northwest corner of the building and shut it down. Atmos Energy was notified. Doors were opened and the building ventilated. Atmos Energy arrived on the scene, tested the interior air of the building and detected no gas. Chief Cook cleared the building to be re-opened.
At 1:05 pm on October 31, fire personnel were dispatched to 1106 Parkview Avenue in Lamar on report of a fire alarm activation. Upon arrival at the scene, fire personnel found no signs of a fire and were unable to hear the alarm. The occupant of the building was located and was unaware that the alarm had sounded. Fire crew verified that there was no fire and the alarm had not sounded. The building authority was notified of the faulty alarm.
