The Prowers County Sheriff’s Office responded to 284 calls for service this past June, 2013. Lamar issued 150 calls of which 19 were for warrant arrests and 54 were jail related. Holly had 20 calls for service for June with two for harassments, traffic accidents, disturbances and one for citizen assists and civil disputes. The County had 102 calls with 15 for traffic accidents, 11 for animal-related problems, seven for thefts, two DUI’s and three disturbances. Twenty-eight warning tickets were issues, 25 traffic citations and five criminal summonses. The department had three new cases assigned with 21 cases marked as cleared. Of those 11 resulted in charges being filed and 11 investigations still continue.
Year to date, there have been 810 bookings at the jail with 634 male and the balance female. June 2012 saw 102 men booked compared to 114 last month. Women had 82 bookings in 2012 and 87 for June of 2013. Nine inmates were reported to ICE investigators. The average number of inmates held each day in June was 52. For the month of June, 6,344 persons entered the county courthouse for a daily average of 317. Courthouse Security made five arrests on various individuals who had outstanding warrants.
Detective Weisenhorn and Posse Deputy Reamy stopped a suspected DUI driver. As the pickup stopped, one passenger fled from the truck. The driver, 23 year old Joseph Gazotti of Lamar, was arrested for unlawful possession of methamphetamines, drug paraphernalia, and possession of a weapon by a pervious offender. Gazotti was held on $8,000 bond. A passenger, Casie Hawkins, 25, also of Lamar, was charged with possession of methamphetamine. Deputy Weisenhorn later tracked the passenger who fled and charged a 17 year old Lamar boy with possession of methamphetamine.
On June 17, 2013, Sheriff Deputies and Posse Members were called to assist Prowers County residents with flooding along Highway 196 and various other places in the County. Some residents needed help temporarily evacuating from their homes until waters subsided.
Regarding financial information, the Cost of Meals for June was reported as $10,800.07 and Inmate Medical Expenses was $1,183.22. June Expenses came to $160,453.56 and Revenues for the same period was $36,193.08.
