Police Alert Public to Banking Computer/Cellphone Scam

FRAUDULENT TEXT MESSAGES ARE BEING SENT TO RESIDENTS
A recent scam has been circulating around the community of Lamar. The scam includes receiving a text message from “Compass Bank” with a number to call. When a person calls, they are asked to press “1” to renew their debit card. After this the person is asked to enter their debit card number and PIN. DO NOT enter your card number and PIN.
If you receive a text message like this, please contact your banking institution to verify the information prior to entering your card number.
Do not give your personal identifying information or banking information to anybody unless you are absolutely positive they are from your current bank.
