The Prowers County Sheriff’s Office responded to 295 calls for service for March, 2012. Lamar generated 153 calls, there were 25 for Holly, 15 in Wiley and 93 in the county at large. Fifty-seven of the Lamar calls were jail related and 20 resulted in warrant arrests. Holly reported four traffic accidents and related problems, plus one warrant arrest and one case of harassment. There were two warrant arrests for Wiley, one domestic violence call and one theft and one traffic accident. The Prowers County Sheriff’s department responded to 18 accident calls in the county, 12 animal problem calls, four thefts, and two drug related and two alcohol related calls. The department issued 38 traffic citations and summonses as well as issuing 49 warning tickets.
Investigating officers were assigned two new cases in March, cleared 13 and conducted 13 investigations which resulted in charges being filed. Eleven cases are still active investigations. There was a slight increase in the number of male and female bookings for March 2012, compared to last year. Total bookings were 112 for last month, compared to 97 for the same time last year and year to date bookings are at 354. Eighty-nine males were booked this March, compared to 76 last year and there were 23 females booked for last month, compared to 21 for March, 2011. Eleven inmates were reported to I.C.E. for the previous month.
Last month, Prowers County Courthouse security arrested three persons who had active warrants for their arrest. There were 7,796 people who were screened entering the courthouse last month for a daily average of 41. An evacuation drill for the courthouse and courthouse employees has been scheduled for 8:30am on April 30. The public is asked to try to schedule their visits at the courthouse for later in the day on April 30.
Detective T. Weisenhorn arrested Kellie Kay Jones, 24, of Lamar, on possession of a Schedule ll, Schedule lll and Schedule V controlled substance, possession of two ounces or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jones was held on $4,000 bond. Detective J. Parker contacted a vehicle in the 3000 block of Highway 50 for a traffic violation. A vehicle search discovered a methamphetamine pipe and other paraphernalia in the vehicle. Jeannette Miller, 27, of Walsh was charged with possession of a Schedule ll controlled substance and paraphernalia.
The cost of inmate meals for March 2012 was $10,591.82 and medical expenses totaled $1,516.08. The number of inmates held each day in jail averaged 49. Jail expenses for March were $211,558.61, and Year-to-Date is $537,277.01. Jail revenue for March was $43,567.50 and Year-to-Date is $71,797.21.
