Granada–Holly Highway Chase Results in Lamar Fatality

Pursuit / Fatal Crash

The Colorado State Patrol is currently investigating a three vehicle fatal crash that occurred on January 9, 2012, at approximately 9:40 P.M., on Highway 50 in the town of Holly.
At approximately 9:34 PM, a Granada Police Officer attempted to contact a 1995 Camaro that was traveling eastbound, for reckless driving in the town of Granada. The Camaro attempted to elude the officer and a pursuit ensued eastbound on Colorado 50.  Speeds reached over 100 MPH. The officer lost sight of the Camaro prior to it entering the town of Holly.  After the Camaro entered Holly, it lost control for several hundred feet then collided with two parked cars that were legally parked on the north side of the road.

The driver, a 14-year-old male from Lamar, was restrained at the time of the accident.  He was transported to Prowers Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.The passenger, a 17-year-old male from Lamar, was restrained at the time of the accident. He sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and pronounced deceased on scene.

It was discovered that the Camaro was stolen out of Lamar. The case is still under investigation and the charges are pending by Granada Police Department.
