Claudia Parker and Jackie Leiker from the Holly Fun Club, presented some of their plans for the approaching Holly Gateway Fair, September 26-29 during the Holly Commercial Club’s monthly meeting. Various games and prizes are planned for Saturday. A softball tournament is set for the prior Saturday, the 19th and volunteers would be welcome to help run the event. The Holly Fun Club has also planned a Mexican Dinner and silent auction for October. Half of the proceeds will help fund next year’s fireworks display being organized by the local fire department and the remainder will be used by the Fun Club. Holly Commercial Club members voted to donate $100 to the Fun Club activities.
Interim Executive Director for PCDI, Prowers County Development Incorporated, George Gotto, addressed the Commercial Club on long range plans to widen Highway 50 from Lamar to the westerly mountain range. He also mentioned plans to develop outdoor recreation avenues in or near Holly, due in part to the increased water sources that have added to the levels in the reservoir and ponds in our region. PCDI funding was also discussed, with a need for additional contributions from the county. Gotto added that he would like to see more communities in Prowers County benefit from PCDI as most of the attention has been Lamar focused.
John Golden suggested that the Holly Commercial Club would donate to the Ralph Plummer Memorial Fund and a motion and second was made to donate $500. Pastor Ralph Plummer, who had served the Holly Commercial Club for numerous years, passed away recently.
