Objects in Motion Tend to Stay in Motion

Isaac Newton couldn’t have been more accurate when he postulated the three theories of motion centuries ago and one of them was evident at the intersection of Main and Olive Streets in Lamar Tuesday afternoon, shortly before 5pm.
A northbound semi- truck, hauling several stacks of what appeared to be metal girders, came to an abrupt stop just ahead of the signal lights at the intersection. The truck stopped but several of the girders continued north, sliding off the top of the pile and landed on the front portion of the cab and in the street.
Traffic was diverted for a portion of the afternoon rush hour between Olive and Oak Streets while a tow truck arrived to put the matter to rights. The driver was treated for a minor injury to his hand by Lamar Fire and Ambulance.
The first law of motion is crucial to safe driving as law enforcement agencies always stress that, especially on highway driving at fast speeds, motorists should keep several car lengths in back of the vehicle in front of them, depending on your rate of speed. A sudden stop for vehicles ahead of you for an accident or loss of visibility during a high plains dust storm, can bring about disastrous results.
