Granada Police Department Hosts Bike/Walk Safety Event

The Granada Police Department held its Bike/Walk Safety Event at the Granada School on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 for grades K-5th. Approximately 90 students participated in the event and learned biking and walking safety tips for being on town streets. They learned the rules of crosswalks, stop and yield signs, right of ways and safely sharing the road with motor vehicles. Healthy snacks and water were provided along with a healthy living presentation from Live Well Prowers County.
Contests were held for individual bike and safety vest decorating along with a class contest for best safety posters. Prizes were awarded to individual winners that day. They were: 1st place-bike helmet; 2nd place-pedometer; 3rd place-“Safety Tips” water bottle. The two class winners of the safety poster contest were 1st and 5th grades. They received a free movie day with popcorn and punch to see “Frozen” on Saturday, May 17th.
This event was held in conjunction with CDOT’s Safe Routes To School Grant. The Granada Police Department would like to thank everyone who helped to make the events a great success including: Colorado State Patrol, Granada School Staff and Students, Granada Stop 2 Shop, Live Well Prowers County, Debra Choat, Connie Cook, John McMillan, Edna Pennington, and Jim, Landy and K.K.
