No Booze Cruise has Great Friday Night Turn Out

The annual No Booze Cruise and Poker Run drew a capacity crowd at Sonic Drive-in on Friday evening, May 16.  The event helps kick off activities for the annual Lamar Days Festival.  Cars, trucks and bikes turned out in the parking lot, along with an assortment of vehicles from the Lamar Fire and Ambulance Service.

Car enthusiasts were able to check out the finished product for modified and tricked-out cars, while some on hand, were works in progress.  It was a touch of the way it used to be when such drive-ins could be found in almost every town on any given Friday night.  If memory serves, “American Graffiti” pretty much got it right.  The proceeds from the Poker Run will be used to help finance the annual July 4th fireworks display, hosted by the Lamar Fire and Ambulance Department.  About 130 cars and bikes were expected to be on display at Willow Creek Park for the Rod Run Car Show, organized by Ron Cook.

Lamar Fire Chief, Marshall Cook, one of the attendees with other members of the Fire and Ambulance department agreed with the numbers for the turnout.  He said a rough estimate of the firework donations from the Cruise night would be around $1,100.  This marks the 19th year of the Car Show.
