Holly Burton and Lisa Thomas, representing the Remember Foundation, a local Alzheimer’s support group, outlined the organization’s second annual fundraiser, set for July 3 this year.
Their request for $600 in marketing costs was approved by the Prowers Lodging Tax Panel during their monthly meeting, Tuesday, June 18. The event, which will be held again this year at the Country Acres Motel and RV Park, raised $6,000 last year and organizers hope to match or better that amount this year. The cost for the BBQ dinner/dance is $20 per person and a silent auction will be conducted. Two bands will entertain this year, JUDI and Brethren Flow. The fundraising evening begins at 6pm.
Panel members received word that the Prowers County Commissioners approved a request to advertise county activities on the rear panels of a tourism kiosk at the Granada Amache Museum. The kiosk is one of four installed by Canyons and Plains at the entrances to southeast Colorado historic areas. The others are in Eads, Springfield and Fowler. Earlier, panel members approved funding the events signs for Granada, pending approval by the County.
Spreading Antlers Golf Course will be highlighted in a brochure featuring golf courses in southeast Colorado. The panel approved the $650 bill which will be shared with the Rodeway Cow Palace Inn. The price guarantees the front cover and inside page of the brochure while the motel will advertise on the rear back cover.
The panel received a lodging tax payment from the state in April for $18,562, bringing the current balance to $36,489.95. Lodging panel funds are generated from a 2% lodging or motel tax in the county and are applied to advertise tourist based events throughout Prowers County. Organizations that are interested in developing such activities may contact the Lodging Panel at the PCDI offices at 719-336-2384.
