Latest Lamar Fire Department Response Calls

The Lamar Fire and Ambulance Services responded to several calls during the Labor Day weekend and afterwards.
Personnel were on hand for a semi- truck that had rolled off the highway at the Wiley Intersection on Sunday morning, September 2. A 2013 Freightliner rolled off the highway onto the driver’s side where the only damage to the vehicle occurred. There were no chemical spills resulting from the accident and no hazard materials were being transported as freight. The Prowers County Rural Fire Department, Wiley Fire Department and Prowers County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene, which required several hours to right the vehicle and get it back on the highway.
The Lamar Fire Department responded to unintentional smoke detector activation shortly after noon on Monday, September 3. The alarm was used by a motel in the 1200 Block of North Main Street in Lamar. The fire alarm system was reset. The department responded to a trash fire at 3:12pm that afternoon in the 1700 block of South 11 Street. The situation was contained in about 15 minutes.
An automobile accident at 7:30 Tuesday morning resulted in a chemical spill clean up by the department. The accident occurred at the intersection of Main and Park Streets in Lamar. About a gallon of anti-freeze spilled from one vehicle that had heavy front-end damage. At approximately 10:30 that morning, personnel responded to the Lamar High School on a call of a Haz-Mat situation. A code for a gas sensor in one of the classrooms was indicated, but no abnormal readings taken with a sensing device were found. The fire department response lasted 15 minutes.
