The Colorado State Patrol will be hosting their annual Youth Academy in Golden, CO from June 10-16, 2012. They are currently seeking 40 applicants for the academy. Applications are due by March 9th.
“The goal of the Youth Academy is to assist in the development of future leaders for the state of Colorado,” said Colonel James Wolfinbarger, Chief of the CSP. “Focus is on leadership development through team exercises and individual achievement. Participants will become familiar with the basic elements of the CSP Academy through a daily training schedule.”
The Youth Academy is limited to 40 high school students, who are selected throughout the state. The selected applicants will be challenged physically and mentally. The Academy will have daily activities, which concentrate on individual learning, team building, and leadership. The training includes the Alive at 25 defensive driving course, introduction to law enforcement ethics, law enforcement driving, firearm safety and familiarization, police communication, and the history and philosophy of the Colorado State Patrol.
Several high school students from our area attended the Youth Academy last year. Jordin Knabenshue was one of the local participants. She said she learned how to work with others through teamwork and not just be an individual. Discipline and how to listen to authority were areas, which also stood out to her.
The Youth Academy is provided at no cost to the participants and is made possible through partnerships with local community-minded businesses, organizations, and the Colorado State Patrol.
