Speedy Meeting for Lamar City Council

Only a few topics were covered during the Monday night Lamar city council meeting on January 9.  Pat Mason, Public Works Director, told the council, “We’re about 95% complete on all our snow removal at this point.”  Mason said the street crews have had to operate with a small, warm window of opportunity, between 11am and 2:30pm, to remove the snow and ice that has softened when the temperatures begin to climb.  He said the snow is still solid on the streets during the early morning hours and it starts to refreeze around 4pm.  Mason said his crews are concerned about drainage right now with the amount of snowmelt being able to reach the drains.  Both Mason and Mayor Roger Stagner expressed their thanks for the work done by the city crews as well as the Prowers County workers who assisted with city snow removal operations.

The council scheduled a public hearing for January 23, 2012 at 7pm in council chambers on the application submitted by the Lamar Chamber of Commerce for a special events permit to host an annual wine tasting event at the Cow Palace Inn on March 23.  The council also approved a modification of premises to the Cow Palace Inn for their Hotel and Restaurant liquor license.  The first application, submitted on September 20, 2011, included only a portion premises for the license.  The corrected version, approved this past Monday, covered the completed map of the location.

The council conducted housekeeping procedures, updating a 1995 agreement for employee payroll  with new signatures and designated those locations in and around the city where notices will be posted for public meetings and hearings.  The next Lamar City Council meeting will be held Monday, January 23.
