The Colorado General Office Agents, Management and Staff at New York Life Insurance Company presented Lamar Area Hospice with a $600 donation in memory of Jill Tinnes. The donation was the proceeds from the first annual Jillian Sweet Tinnes Memorial Golf Tournament held July 31st at Heritage Golf Course at Westmoor. Every year the Agency hosts a golf scramble tournament for their Agents and guests and made the decision to dedicate the special day to Jill’s memory. Heidi Halus, New York Life Partner, stated in a letter included with the donation, “We thank your organization for the incredible work that you do for the community and look forward to participating in future fundraising efforts.” Jill was a New York Life Agent in Lamar from December 2011 until she passed on November 28, 2014 at the age of 38 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Jill was an active fundraiser and a loyal supporter of Lamar Area Hospice and the work they do.
Deb Pelley, Executive Director of Lamar Area Hospice responded as such, “Jill will never be forgotten. This is another way she will continue to bless the community that she loved and served so graciously. She has left an incredible legacy for her family and friends to continue. We are honored that she loved hospice and the work we do. Jill and I talked very specifically about the financial support that she generated and the decision was made to designate those funds to our palliative program. Palliative care is an additional layer of emotional and clinical care for patients living with a serious illness. It focuses on improving quality of life by reducing the physical and emotional stress often associated with a serious illness. Most importantly, it is available even while you are continuing to receive curative treatments. It is a growing field of specialized care that often supplements therapies associated with treating or managing cancer, congestive heart failure, and other serious diseases, however, there is no avenue to bill for the services, so it is a charitable option that Lamar Area Hospice offers. We will appreciate the funds to support this valuable service.”
