There’s a lot of activity underway for this year’s Sand and Sage Fair, culminating with the popular  BBQ and Rodeo Friday and Saturday, August 7 and 8, including Moore’s Greater Shows Carnival. This will also mark the first time a beer garden will be set up at the fairgrounds for the fair with servings set for Thursday through Saturday afternoon and evenings.

Family Night is set for Tuesday, August 4, featuring hot dogs for 50 cents and dollar hamburgers. The Royalty Contest begins at 5:30pm and everyone’s invited to join in the 4-h Fashion Revue show and awards and don’t miss the 6pm Minute To Win It – Ping Pong Ball Drop.

The traditional Sand and Sage Kid’s Day is Wednesday, August 5 with free kid’s day games running from 9am to Noon with a free lunch for 12 and under youngsters. The evening features the 5pm Barrel Race Competition and the 6pm Market Swine Show, plus it’s movie night at 8pm showcasing “Planes: Fire and Rescue.”

The Lamar FFA is cooking breakfast on Thursday and Friday from 6am to 9am at the Home Ec Building for only $5. The 4-H/FFA Market Beef Show starts right after at 9:30am, followed by the Sheep Show at 11am and the Goat Show at 4pm. The Ham-Bean and Cornbread dinner begins servings at 5:30pm and at 6pm, bid on a pie at the auction to raise funds for new bleachers. The carnival is back in town for three evenings, Thursday through Saturday. Don’t forget the Ranch Rodeo has been moved from Sunday to Thursday evening following the dinner.

Youngsters get a kick from competing in the irrigation tube setting contest on Friday at 10am, south of the grandstands and the Champion Showman Contest also starts at 10am in the Show Barn. Tiny Tot Showmanship will start at 6:30pm and the PRCA Rodeo begins at 8pm in the arena.

This year’s parade theme is ‘Red-White and Moo’ and it starts at 10am on Saturday morning, shortly after the Lamar Elks host a morning breakfast at 8am at the Pocket Park downtown. The Junior Livestock Sale begins at 1pm and be sure to show you’re Tough Enough to Wear Pink Saturday night. The Chuckwagon Beef BBQ starts at 6pm. The Parade of Champions will begin at 7pm and the annual Fair Appreciation Award will be presented in the arena at 7:45pm, followed by another evening of PRCA Rodeo.

Sunday wraps up all the festivities for the year with the release of all Open Entries at 1:30pm and folks can attend the 5:30pm Calcutta. Other highlights for this year’s fair include Arkansas Valley Paintball,  WOW Bubbles, Masters of the Chainsaw makes a yearly return and the family will enjoy the One World Tiger Show.
