The traditional Wake Up Lamar Breakfast was held at the Lamar Eagles this year, a prelude to Lamar Days activities for Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16.   The Lamar Chamber Board of Directors were busy the night before, preparing the soufflé breakfast that came out of the oven by 6:45am Friday, in time for 100 or so Lamar residents.

Following a brief meet and greet in the buffet line, County Commissioner, Ron Cook, provided a welcome for guests and a run down for some of the Lamar Days activities, featuring this year’s theme, “Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future”.  “Let’s have a round of applause for members of our audience, the council, chamber directors, fire and police and our neighbors who help make this town a safe and growing environment,” he remarked.  Cook also teased Lamar’s newest councilman, Felix Dias, saying, “As you’re the last new council member, it’s time for you to make a speech.”

Musical entertainment in the form of the “Name that Tune” contest was provided by Lamar Chamber President and Office Manager, Kynlee Emick and Lisa Carder.  Snippets of popular songs were played over the PA system using an ipod and the audience was encouraged to identify the tunes to win Lamar Bucks.  Selections included songs from local artist Clare Dunn, as well as the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac.

Some of Friday Lamar Days events included new features such as the Willow Creek Park, ArkValley Paintball shoot from 5pm to 9pm and the traditional Rod Run No Booze Cruise and Poker Run with the Cops from Sonic Drive In at 6:30pm.  This is the 20th year of the drive, which has become an important fundraiser for the annual 4th of July Fireworks Fund.
