Lamar City Council Calls Executive Session Dealing with Power Company Concerns

The Lamar City Council will go directly into executive session after opening a special meeting on Tuesday, July 8, at 6pm in council chambers.

There is no word on how long the meeting may last, but the council agenda has listed several options for the council following the executive session which was called for a conference with the City Attorney to receive legal advice on a number of questions or to develop strategy for negotiations and instructions for negotiators.

The agenda also lists Possible Action regarding Reaffirmation of an Organic Contract, Possible Action regarding Joining a Citizens Lawsuit, Possible Action regarding the Decommissioning of the Lamar Repowering Project or Miscellaneous matters.  This meeting was set to follow a July 2nd public hearing with the Lamar City Council and concerned citizens regarding what steps may be open to the council regarding any legal action against ARPA, Arkansas River Power Authority, with regards to the $156M in construction bonds secured to finance the coal plant, Lamar Repowering Project and ARPA’s options to either decommission and sell equipment from the plant, or place it in cold standby.
