With the Lamar Public Library’s 2014 Summer Reading Program, there is something for everyone!
Summer Reading Programs (SRPs) have been a staple for many, if not most, public libraries since the turn of the twentieth century. Each summer, during the annual hiatus from school, reading skills often decline. This phenomenon is sometimes called “summer loss” or “summer reading setback.”
Summer Reading Programs are valuable in many ways for children/adults participating. Reading practice improves word recognition, builds vocabulary, improves fluency and comprehension, is a powerful source of world knowledge, and is a way to develop understandings of complex grammar.
Lamar Public Library is pleased to announce that they are opening their Summer Reading Program to not only children, but people of all ages!
