Lady Trojans Snap Four-Game Skid

The Las Animas Lady Trojans had lost four straight games heading into last Friday’s home contest against John Mall. That skid came to a close with a 62-33 victory over the Lady Panthers. However, the Lady Trojans were unable to build off that win, as they were defeated by Rye, 62-31, the next night.
In Friday’s victory, the Lady Trojans got all the margin they would need in the first quarter, outscoring their guests 17-2. John Mall started to get a bit of offense going in the final three periods, but by the middle of the third, the home crowd was enjoying what would become a blow-out victory. Taylor Spady led a trio of Las Animas players in double figures with a game-high 18 points. Cara Miller added 13, and Sahara Snead chipped in a dozen.
Rye, who is the closest competitor to Santa Fe leader, Hoehne, did its part to remain within striking distance of the Lady Farmers, by taking down Las Animas on Saturday. Just about everything that had gone right for the Lady Trojans the night before, went wrong against the Lady T-bolts.
Rye put enough points on the board in the first quarter to earn the victory, blasting the Lady Trojans 35-4 in the opening frame. The home team then cruised to the 32-point victory. Spady again led Las Animas in scoring, tallying 12 points in the loss.
The Lady Trojans will try to fix what went wrong against Rye as they prepare to host Rocky Ford on Friday and travel to Hoehne on Saturday. Hoehne is ranked #6 in this week’s Colorado Preps poll.
