Holly Ladies Split Series With Springfield

WILDCAT1It was a marquee match-up on paper and the game lived up to the billing when Holly’s Lady Wildcats visited Springfield last Friday night. Both teams were right on the cusp of making the top ten in their respective classes, and the earlier meeting between the two went down to the wire. Holly won that first meeting, 44-43, so the Lady Longhorns were looking for payback.

Springfield grabbed a 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and the home side would increase its lead to three points by the intermission, 24-21. Every Holly run on the evening was countered by the Lady Longhorns, who took a 36-33 advantage into the final frame, where they outscored the Lady Wildcats, 14-13, to provide the final margin of victory, four points.

The 50-46 loss puts Holly on a two-game skid heading into Friday’s home tilt against Wiley. Second-ranked Eads also visits Holly, on Saturday. The Lady Wildcats had last Saturday’s game at Cheyenne Wells postponed by weather, and no make-up date had been announced prior to publication.
