At 1:10pm on Wednesday, May 29, Lamar Fire Department personnel were dispatched to an oil or other combustible liquid spill on Mill Street at the railroad in Lamar. While driving on a side street, vehicle F-3 noticed a low pressure liquid tank car on a rail siding with a wet substance leaking down the side. The car was placarded as a flammable liquid and through further investigation it was found that the liquid in the tank was crude oil. Vapors were observed coming out of the dome located at the top of the tank, while similarly labeled tank cars with the same placard were not showing similar vapors or leaking liquid. BNSF was contacted about the leaking car, who noted someone would be out to take a look at it. The scene was cleared and left to BNSF to remediate.
