Tax Assistance Available for Free at LCC Beginning January 26
Trained Lamar Community College students and staff will prepare and e-file tax returns free of charge for eligible individuals and families on behalf of Tax Help Colorado, a partnership with the Denver-based Piton Foundation.
Tax Help Colorado at LCC kicks off on January 26 and will continue each Saturday through February 23. The service, which is quick and confidential, will be offered from 9 am until 3 pm in Betz Technology Center, lower level, Room 103.
The free tax service is available to families earning less than $50,000, saving them hundreds of dollars they might otherwise pay to commercial tax preparers.
Lamar Community College is one of 27 free Tax Help Colorado sites. Student volunteers have completed a 15 week college-accredited income tax preparation course and have passed the VITA/TCE certification exam administered by the Internal Revenue Service.
Last tax season, the LCC Tax Help Colorado site assisted 87 taxpayers file for over $130,000 in refunds. The statewide Tax Help Colorado program assisted nearly 7,000 lower-income taxpayers file for $13.2 million in refunds.
