It’s Time to Order Seedling Trees
Being inside due to the cold winter weather is a good time to begin planning those spring planting projects. The Colorado State University Extension Offices in the Southeast Area are kicking off the 2013 seedling tree program. We have a wide variety of trees available to order from your local Colorado State University Extension Office. The program enables farmers, ranchers, and rural landowners who have one or more acres of land to obtain trees at nominal cost. Order forms are available at your local Colorado State University Extension Office. The order forms are also available on our web site: www.extension.colostate.edu/SEA/ .
Advantages of planting trees around your farmstead include the following:
- Improve air quality. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and replenish the atmosphere with oxygen.
- Save energy by cooling in the hotter months and as windbreaks during the winter.
- Reduce noise.
- Improve water quality by reducing runoff and erosion.
- Improve wildlife diversity by providing habitat.
We have a great selection of evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs available this year. Some species that do well in our area sell out quickly and supplies are limited so it is a first-come basis, so order soon.
Orders will be taken until March 1, 2013 with the seedlings arriving in mid-March.
