New Prowers County Public Health Director Selected

A new director for the Prowers County Department of Public Health and Environment was announced by the Prowers County Commissioners during a brief meeting with department staff on Friday, September 28.

Justin Lee, MPH (Masters, Public Health), from Erie Colorado was selected from a national search of 17 candidates. He also has a BS in Biology and Pre-Med studies. Prowers County Commissioner, Henry Schnabel, said that group was narrowed to three by the search committee which recently made their final decision. Commission Chairman, Gene Millbrand informed the group that Lee will be in Lamar by October 12 and is expected to begin his duties on October 22. He will replace Jackie Brown, RN, who was head of the county health department for 22 years before announcing her retirement about six weeks ago. Millbrand said the offer to Lee came with the understanding that possibly, within a year, the Social Services position could be blended in as well. Commissioner Schnabel said that current Director of Social Services in Prowers County, Linda Fairbairn, has indicated that she is considering retirement this time next year.

Lee has been a Clinical Trial Specialist/Manager in Denver as well as a Clinical Site Director with Rocks Medical Research Institute, Inc., in Fresno, California. Lee has experience as a grant writer when he was employed with several firms in California.

Millbrand said Lee is married with three children and is used to life in small communities. The search/interview committee was comprised of the three county commissioners, Jo Dorenkamp, County Administrator, and two members of the county public health department staff.
