Lamar Fire Dept. Responds to Two Incidents this Past Weekend

The following are two incidents that the Lamar Fire Department responded to this past Sunday.

Lamar Fire  Department Report :

Stove Fire:
At 1145 hours on Sunday, September 23, 2012 the Lamar Fire Department was dispatched to a cooking fire confined to the container. One unit was assigned to the incident. Three personnel responded. They arrived on scene at 1146 hours and cleared at 1215 hours. The incident occurred at 905 Bishop, Lamar. The local Station is STI.

On 9/23/2012 at 905 Bishop Street, Lamar a fire was paged for a smoke alarm from a stove fire caused by old grease on the stove and overheating oil in the pan. Resident owner stated that she turned on the stove to heat up oil and it must have popped and landed on the heating element on her electric stove causing a flare up. Lamar Fire noted stove had several knobs and several other plastic items to have been melted. Ceiling in the kitchen was black in color, assuming from the plastic being burned during the incident. Smoke detectors in place and working. Resident owner asked for a response from fire, however, more for the report of the fire for insurance purpose. When Lamar Fire go on scene, noted that North side door to the resident was opened and home owner was taking to Chief-on-call for the day, Jeremy Burkhart, Cpt. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel was extinguishment. No mutual/automatic aid was given or received.

This call originated as a call to 911 from home owner. Dispatch then called the business phone of Lamar Fire and requested Engineer Arrona speak with the home owner on what she needed to do to get a written report for the fire. It was explained to the home owner that she would need to hang up and call 911 again, that way Lamar Fire could send a unit out to her resident to further investigate. Residents’ number given to Jeremy Burkhart, Cpt. for further assistance.

Grass Fire:
At 1628 hours on Sunday, September 23, 2012 the Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire. Two units were assigned to this incident. Nine personnel responded. They arrived on scene at 1629 hours an cleared at 1649 hours. The incident occurred at South 13th St. at Fort Bent Canal, Lamar. The location was described as urban/wildland interface area. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel was extinguishment. No mutual/automatic aid was given or received.

The cause of the fire was incendiary.

E-1 responded to a grass fire at the intersection of South 13th and Ft. Bent Canal. No exposures or structures were threatened.  Reporting party stated that he heard a loud report and then saw smoke. Reporting party also stated that he saw a group of juveniles fleeing the scene. The area burned was approx. 100 square feet. There was another burned area on the North side of the intersection, along the canal that was approx. 10 square feet. E-2 responded and was cancelled reroute by Jeremy Burkhart, Cpt.
