West Maple Water Project Underway

Traffic along West Maple Street from North 9th heading east, will see some detours for the next several weeks. Lamar Water Superintendent, Chris Sandoval informed the city council last week, that several outdated water mains will be replaced, section by section, one block at a time. Sandoval said that because of the condition of the lines, this is considered a priority project and budgeted funds have been accumulating for the past several years, but not used.
All the water lines will be moved to the north side of West Maple Street, Sandoval said. Some of them criss-cross the roadway and the change will eliminate digging up the middle of the street in the future.
Because of the timing of the project, Sandoval said work crews will put only a patch on the street to temporarily cover the digging until next spring when a permanent topping is laid down.
