CDOT Summer Road Work Schedule

CDOT - Colorado Department of TransportationMay 11, 2012 – Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 – PUEBLO – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is beginning or completing work on 30 projects totaling $194.4 million throughout southeastern Colorado this construction season.

“We’ll have a variety of projects underway this summer, with a lot of bridge replacements taking place along with some large resurfacing jobs on I-25, Powers Boulevard [State Highway 21] and Highway 94,” said CDOT Regional Transportation Direction Tom Wrona.  “And it’s not just this summer.  Work will continue as we head into the fall and winter, including the start of our largest project – the widening of I-25 between Colorado Springs and Monument.”

The 2012 highway construction season includes:

Greater Arkansas Valley Area:

U.S. 50 between Manzanola & Rocky Ford
Days/Hours: Monday through Friday, day hours
Work: Road reconstruction through Manzanola, including new curbs & gutters/Paving/Bridge & ditch repairs
Duration: Through August 2012–Cost: $5.1 million 

U.S. 50 west of Rocky Ford
Days/Hours: Monday through Friday, day hours
Work: Median barrier improvements
Duration: May through September–Cost: $612,000 

U.S. 50 La Junta west
Days/Hours: Monday through Friday, day hours
Work: Drainage improvements
Duration: August through November–Cost: $1.4 million 

State Highway 71 & 266, north of Rocky Ford
Days/Hours: Monday through Friday, day hours; some weekends
Work: Bridge replacement
Duration: June through December–Cost: $5.8 million (Fully funded by FASTER Bridge) 

U.S. 350 southwest of La Junta
Days/Hours: Monday through Friday,
Work: Paving and road reconstruction in La Junta
Duration: Through June–Cost: $3.3 million 

U.S. 50 between Hasty & McClave Junction (State Highway 196)
Days/Hours: Monday through Friday, day hours
Work: Passing and auxiliary lane construction–Duration: June through November–Cost: $9.4 million ($1.3 million funded by FASTER Safety) 

State Highway 101 south of Las Animas
Days/Hours: Monday through Friday, day hours
Work: Bridge replacement
Duration: Through October–Cost: $4.5 million (Fully funded by FASTER Bridge) 

U.S. 160 east & west of Pritchett
Days/Hours: Monday through Friday, day hours
Work: Bridge replacement (three structures)
Duration: June through November–Cost: $3.6 million (Fully funded by FASTER Bridge) 

PLEASE NOTE: All projects listed above are weather permitting.  Traffic delays or slowing should be anticipated through most work zones due to lower posted speed limits and necessary traffic control measures.  The listed duration also is approximate since other factors can extend, delay or interrupt projects.  In addition, work or projects that are short-term or that do not significantly impact traffic flow are not listed.

FASTER – Funding Advancements for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery – is fully or partially funding 19 projects in southeastern Colorado this year.  Monies collected by the FASTER Safety Fund are used for construction, reconstruction, or maintenance projects that the Transportation Commission, or a county or municipality determine are needed to enhance the safety of a state highway, county road, or city street.  FASTER also established a Statewide Bridge Enterprise, funding the maintenance and repair of Colorado’s most urgent structurally-deficient and functionally-obsolete bridges.  Additional information is accessible at: www.coloradodot.info/projects/faster.
