“Powering Up” with Sun & Wind – LCC Earth Day
VPG | Apr 10, 2012 | Comments 0
(Lamar, Colorado, April 6, 2012) Lamar Community College will host an Earth Day-related event focusing on renewable energy on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 9 a to 3 p at the Betz Technology Center. Renewable energy is that which can be constantly replenished, including sun and wind. This energy can change the way residents live, work and learn and offers an opportunity to take what is natural and convert it to less expensive and more earth-friendly power. Participants will see demonstrations and receive valuable information about the college’s new renewable energy technician program beginning in the fall of 2012. Visitors are encouraged to see demonstrations on how Colorado is moving forward in the “renewable” effort and to learn more about LCC’s renewable energy program.
First celebrated on April 22, 1970, Earth Day was organized to promote ecology, encourage respect for life on earth, and highlight growing concerns over soil, air, and water pollution. Now, 42 years later, the college is celebrating Earth Day as it begins a new renewable energy program. Join LCC staff and students as the college “powers up” using the sun and wind for fun and educational activities. Staff and guests will demonstrate how passive solar energy and wind turbines work and the impact that renewable energy is making in Colorado.
Since LCC’s Career/Job Fair will be held also on Wednesday, April 18 from 10:00 a to 2:30 p at the LCC Wellness Center, community members and students may want to make plans to attend both events.
