Precipitation in January was generally below average across southeast and South Central Colorado. The primary sites at Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Alamosa were 0.26, 0.30 and 0.19 inches below average, respectively.
Mountain snowpack at the end of January was running below average across southeast and South Central Colorado. The Arkansas Basin reported 86% of average snowpack overall. The Rio Grande Basin reported 82% of average snowpack.
Streamflow was generally near or below average at the end of January. Soil Moisture was also near or below average. Overall reservoir storage was below average. At the end of January, the Arkansas Basin reported 94% of average storage overall, while the Rio Grande Basin reported 66% of average storage.
The outlook for February, March and April, from the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, indicates that temperature will most likely be above average and precipitation will most like be below average.
Precipitation levels for January 2012, usually a low precipitation month, were down considerably from the year before for southeast Colorado.
