Verizon Customers Targeted in email Scam

Fraudulent Collection Letter :

The local Verizon office in Lamar has alerted the Lamar Chamber of Commerce and area residents to be wary of an email scam being sent to some customers of the cell phone company.  The following is the letter alerting residents to be wary of the potential fraud.

“We have received reports of customers receiving potentially fraudulent “Collection” letters via e-mail which appear to be from Verizon Wireless regarding their accounts with us. Corporate Security is investigating, but at this time it is believed an e-mail collection letter scam has reached some of our customers.

Collection emails are a part of the VZW collection strategy. We will never solicit customer proprietary information and all payments are directed to a VZW self-serve option or call center. Also, Please advise customers who inquire about having received this potentially fraudulent e-mail that they should go to My Verizon or dial #BAL from their mobile device for account balance information”
