Child Safety Concerns Addressed

Seatbelt safety and child safety seat law changes will be discussed this Saturday, April 9, from 9am to Noon at the Lamar Community Building.

Cheryl Gilmore said Colorado has made changes in booster seat laws and recommended changes in rear-facing safety seats, and these and other subjects will be discussed at the public session.  Gilmore said kid-oriented displays will entertain youngsters during the meeting, and parents can register to win a $20 Safeway gift card and register to win a free kid’s bicycle.  Drinks and a light snack will be provided.  Parents with children from 8 to 14 years are encouraged to attend.

Gilmore said a mock DUI accident will be staged at Lamar High School Friday, April 15, and will involve police, CSP, EMT responders, Cook’s Towing, the fire department and other groups who will take part in the exercise.  Discussion groups for students will also be held, and CDOT will register students to receive a series of scholarships.  Gilmore said similar exercises have been planned for Springfield, Ordway and La Junta.
