Red Flag Alerts in the County
VPG | Mar 21, 2011 | Comments 0
Members of the Prowers County Volunteer Fire Department responded to a brief grass fire along CR 6 north of Lamar earlier Monday afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning alert for all of southeast Colorado for Monday and Tuesday, and almost the entire state for conditions of dry tinder and strong winds. Only core portions of the Front Range along the I-25 corridor were not in the alert category as of Monday, March 21.
The fire departments in the southeast Colorado urge anyone wishing to burn off their field to obtain a permit and to call their respective fire departments alerting them of your intention to burn, and to find out if you should be burning on a particular day. Fire department officials are always watchful that too many burns may occur on one day and they will not have sufficient manpower or equipment to respond properly if several fires get out of control at one time.
