Lamar Partnership, Inc. Holds First Annual Meeting

Members held a brief, first annual meeting this past Wednesday at the Lamar Chamber of Commerce.  Axel Thurner of C.F. Maier Composites in Lamar was elected to the board as an at-large member.  Two similar positions remain open.  The board is seeking applicants with an interest in business revitalization that are employees or owners of retail and non-retail businesses in Lamar.  Interested persons should contact Shawna Hodge, Main Street Coordinator at 719-688-8073.

A March 10 visit has been scheduled with members of Downtown Colorado, Inc who will help outline a 3-5 year matrix plan for future downtown development projects.  Discussion focused on a $1,000 grant available to assist local business owners with improvements to their storefronts, and the best means of informing the general public of their availability.  Rose Ann Yates and Carla Scranton outlined another funding project, the Small Steps program available from the Colorado Tourism Organization, which can help finance future tourist related events in the community and will be sought by the S.E. Colorado Arts Council.  Bob Ogle, Historic Preservation Programs Director at Lamar Community College, informed the board that some LCC classes are focusing on zone guidelines, concentrating on storefront schematic designs, and Lisa Nolder, executive director of PCDI brought the group up to date on several property purchases along and near Main Street which are expected to develop into new business ventures.
