Funeral services for long time Holly, Colorado resident, Ruby Schenck will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Holly, CO. Interment will follow in the Holly Cemetery. Visitation for Ruby will be held from 1:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Holly.
Ruby Jean Schenck was born on July 14, 1928 to Les and Ethel Kerns. She passed away on January 2, 2016 at her home in Holly at the age of 87 with family holding her hand.
Ruby was born south of Holly at the home of grandparents, Ed and Tilly Barnes, in the Webb Community. She attended school in Coolidge, Kansas. Ruby was united in marriage to Lawrence Schenck on November 23, 1947 in Clayton, New Mexico. They returned to Holly and for the next five years ran Schenck Brothers Motor and Oil Company. In 1952 Ruby and Lawrence moved 20 miles south of Holly and endured the highs and lows of farming and ranching while raising their three boys, Keith, Terry, and Larry. She was involved in many of the activities in the Webb Communities and served for 55 years in the Star Community Church where she had many wonderful friends and neighbors. After retiring in 1990, Ruby and Lawrence continued to live on the farm always ready to lend a helping hand when not traveling with friends in their RV. In 2013 Ruby and Lawrence moved to their present home in Holly.
Ruby was a devoted wife for 68 years to Lawrence, and the best mother to her 3 sons, always making sure needs were met, cooking, cleaning, and driving the tractors and truck when needed, all while keeping the greenest yard and prettiest flowers for miles around.
Ruby is survived by her husband, Lawrence Schenck, of Holly, CO; three sons, Keith and wife, Sue Schenck of Holly, CO, Terry and wife, Charlotte Schenck of Mesa, AZ, and Larry and wife, Kristie Schenck of Holly, CO; two sisters, Gladys and husband, Richard of McAlester, OK and Janet and husband, Albert of Holly, CO; 9 grandchildren, Rory Schenck, Megan Jara, Izzeke Schenck, Halie Schenck, Brian Schenck, Whitney Odell, Craig Schenck, Emily Hatcher, Bryce Schenck; 9 great grandchildren, Adyn and Ethan Jara, Cooper Schenck, Kaley and Nick Odell, Carter and Owen Schenck, Hudson and Hadley Hatcher, and expecting her 10th to be born in May to Brian and Marybrooke Schenck; along with many other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her infant brother, Ralph Kerns; parents, Les and Ethel Kerns; and sisters, Marie Thomeczek and Bessie Crist.
