Several students from the One Step Up program in Lamar, took to the streets for some tree trimming and flower watering this past Wednesday, July 29. Led by Lisa Carder from the Lamar Chamber of Commerce, Jamilet Cruz, Shantel Roman and Alexia Dominguez, shared the cleanup duties of pruning stray branches sprouting from some of tree trunks lining South Main Street.
The young girls explained their mission while they left Carder with some of the snipping. “We decided to help make Lamar more colorful as our choices for One Step Up,” said Cruz. Another girl added, ”We always come out on Wednesday to help water all the planters on Main Street for the flowers.”
Asked how the HOPE Garden was doing for the summer at Lincoln School, they replied,
“It’s growing large right now and we did some weed pulling there and around parts of the town where they’re being noticed.”
