Informational session scheduled for July 29
LA JUNTA — Farm and ranch producers in Baca, Bent, Kiowa and Prowers counties will soon have the opportunity to enroll in a college-level Agri-Business Management program, without having to leave home. Otero Junior College is expanding its ABM program to serve these areas.
Starting on August 17, a full-time faculty member from OJC will begin teaching Records and Business Planning I (ABM 111) to agriculture producers in this four-county area. This is the first class of a full Agri-Business Management program that includes the opportunity to complete up to 10 Agri-Business certificates.
Students will not have to travel to complete the course; instead, they study and learn through three methods of instruction:
- Online and personal lecture, which provides theory and general instruction on course content:
- On-site training, which provides direct analysis of the student’s agriculture business; and
- Cooperative education, which allows the student to apply the theory of the course to practice in their agriculture-related business.
Records and Business Planning I (ABM 111) is a 9-credit college class that runs from August 17 through December 9, 2015. The in-state tuition for the course is $1,326.04. Financial aid is available for those who qualify.
An informational session will be held at the Prowers County Farm Service Agency located at 1501 South Main in Lamar on Wednesday, July 29. The session will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and interested parties can come and go as their schedules allow.
