Cowboy Up at the Wagons in Granada

Chuck Wagon Cooking

Chuck Wagon Cooking

Area residents can enjoy the aroma of a chuck wagon fire and outdoor cooking at the annual Cowboy Up at the Wagons event, Saturday and Sunday, June 20 and 21st at the End of the Line Arena at Camp Amache in Granada.  The event is sponsored by the Santa Fe Trail Cookers and Arena Dust, plus funding from the Prowers County Lodging Tax Board.  The two day event coincides with activities for Granada/Bristol Days and the Granada Alumni Reunion.

Camp site judging will begin on Saturday at 11:30am and the public can enjoy a ham and bean lunch for $6 a plate starting at 12:30pm.  Other events include the Working Cow Horse at 1:30pm, Youth Goat Roping at 2:30pm and Campfire Singing at 6pm (bring your own hotdogs).

Sunday activities include a 7am complimentary breakfast provided by Arena Dust Tours and Santa Fe Trail Cookers.  The church service will be followed by a trail ride through historic Camp Amache.  Donations will be appreciated and will benefit SECCI, Southeast Colorado Cancer Initiative, a local charity which supports local residents fighting cancer.

This is an opportunity to view an old time reenactment of a gathering of chuck wagons and ranch cowboys during competition among the groups on how well cowboys work cattle from horseback.  Enjoy the flavor of the old west.  Free parking and facilities will be offered.  Call 719-688-3869 for more information.
