LCC Rodeo Returns to Action

(Lamar, Colorado; March 2, 2015) Lamar Community College freshman Melanie Roman of Golden is currently ranked 2nd in the national standings of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) and is winning the Central Rocky Mountain Region in barrel racing after the fall season.  All 11 regions of the NIRA are at the halfway mark of the season and regional leaders are compared for national rankings.

“Melanie had a great fall and we are looking forward to spring,” commented LCC coach Fred Sherwood.

The women’s team currently stands at 4th place in the Central Rocky Mountain Region with the men’s team coming in at 10th.  In addition to Roman’s standing, the LCC Rodeo team has one other individual ranked in the top 15 of the Central Rocky Mountain Region.  Mason Johnson (Alamosa) is tied for 12th in Saddle Bronc Riding.

The team will begin their spring season on March 20 at the Gillette College Rodeo in Gillette, WY.
