The Holly Commercial Club met in regular session this past Wednesday, October 1. Marge Creech, representing the Holly Blue Grass Festival, said the annual Rhythm & Ribs event is set for Saturday, October 11 at 5:30pm at the Holly Gateway Fairgrounds. Club members voted to donate some of their purchased advertising schedule with KVAY Radio to help promote the dinner. Creech said the Holly Blue Grass committee has already booked the bands that will showcase next year’s festival and have been placed on the entertainment schedule.
Chantel Fuller, representing the Holly Nursing Care Center, said the Trick or Treat Street event will be held at the Center on Thursday, October 30 at 4:30pm. Treats will be handed out and a costume judging contest will also be held. The Commercial Club is donating the cost of the trophies that will be handed to the children.
The Commercial Club is challenging all the local businesses to dress in Halloween Costumes on the 30th. As children leave school and walk down main street, they will be the judge for the costumes and business decorations. Club members thought this would be a way of getting the kids involved for more of a fun afternoon.
Teri Hetrick, representing the Holly Volunteer Ambulance is scheduled to address the Club in November to discuss their need for a new defibrillator and Club members intend to make a donation for a replacement. Susan Frankel, recruitment director for Lamar Community College plans to address the Club in April regarding the college’s career fair.
