If the Wiley football team had defeated Haxton this past Friday, it would have resulted in a perfect hat trick of sorts.

Beginning the evening, seven YAK aircraft, in a prelude to Saturday’s Fly In Air Show at the Lamar Municipal Airport, made a pass over the football field just a few moments after sunset, trailing streams of smoke as the Russian-built aircraft headed back to Lamar.

Wiley School Principal, Michelle Wallace and other school and Monsanto officials were on hand at halftime to present a $10,000 check, a grant from America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education, which is sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. The presentation was made by Don Shawcroft from the American Farmers Rural Council.  Principal Wallace said, “This funding is very appreciated by the school and the community.  We’re using the grant for the school’s science curriculum for grades 9 through 12.”

A victory by the Panthers would have made the evening complete on three high notes, but unfortunately the team was defeated by Haxton, 52 to 8.
