Lois L. Smith…October, 31, 1921 – June 18, 2014

Funeral services for Lois L. Smith will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014 at Horber Funeral Chapel in Las Animas, CO.  Visitation will be on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to service time.  A private burial will take place at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.

Lois Lorna Smith was born on October 31, 1921 in Seibert, CO to Frank W. and Edna (Hollenbeck) Jones.  She passed away at Bent County Memorial Nursing Home in Las Animas, CO on June 18, 2014 at the age of 92.

Lois graduated from Seibert High School in 1939.  She enjoyed playing basketball during her school days.  Lois met Kenny Smith in Seibert and married him in 1946. During the war she worked in Utah.  When her father passed in 1943 she returned home to farm until after the war ended.  In 1952 Kenny and Lois moved to Ft. Morgan where she ran a restaurant and Kenny worked for the county.  In 1955 Lois and Kenny took in her brother Al’s children to raise.  Kenny passed away in 1965.  Lois and the children then moved to Las Animas in 1966.

Lois is survived by her sons, Frank Jones of Las Animas, CO, and Dick Jones of Cleveland, OK; brother, Al Jones of Las Animas; sister, Ila Mae Hojara of Dallas, Texas; many other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth A. Smith on September 6, 1965; brother, Glen Jones; sister, Inez Melton; and daughters, Connie Maganeila and Mary Kay Jones.
