HOLLY, CO – “Nothing builds self-esteem and self-confidence like accomplishment.” Thomas Carlyle’s words hold true as the Class of 2014 graduated from Holly High School on Sunday. As the class prepares for the next step in their lives, they do so having earned more than $240,000 in scholarship funds as a collective group.
Post-secondary plans vary for this class including four and two-year institutions, vocational programs, joining our nation’s Navy, and entering the workforce. Three students earned full academic tuition scholarships to their respective institutions and several others earned various scholarships providing near full tuition at their post-secondary choice.
“The scholarship monies earned by our seniors demonstrates the motivation and dedication our students have towards their post-secondary careers. It was a pleasure to work with this class throughout the academic year,” said Monica Leiker, Holly High School Counselor.
The following is a detailed list of the scholarships that each graduate received as well as their post-secondary plans:
Jason Barth will be attending Kansas State University. He received the Kansas State University Honors Scholarship ($32,000), Kansas State University College of Engineering’s Engineering Initiative Scholarship ($16,000), Rocky Mountain Electrical League Scholarship ($3,000), Holly-Hartman Alumni Scholarship ($1,000), West Texas A&M Scholarship ($8,000), Lamar Community College Service Area Scholarship ($1,000), Fellowship Credit Union Scholarship ($1,500), and the Barth Family Memorial Scholarship ($500).
George Buell received the Lamar Community College Service Area Scholarship ($1,000).
Cole Burns will attend West Texas A&M. His scholarship offers include Rod Crum Memorial Scholarship ($500), Milburn Memorial Scholarship sponsored by the Holly FFA Chapter ($250), Holly-Hartman Alumni Scholarship ($1,000), 4-H Foundation Scholarship ($500), Teeter Irrigation Water Conservation Scholarship ($500), Colorado Association of Fairs and Shows Scholarship in memory of Pat Morales and Tom McBride ($1,000), Holly Education Association Scholarship ($250), Fellowship Credit Union Scholarship ($1,500), Barth Family Memorial Scholarship ($500), and a Lamar Community College Service Area Scholarship ($1,000).
Lacey Darnell will be a student at Otero Junior College. She received the Southeast Colorado Power Association Scholarship ($500), 4-H Foundation Scholarship ($500), Holly Community Corporation Scholarship ($1,000), Otero Junior College Presidential Leadership Scholarship ($2,000), and a Lamar Community College Service Area Scholarship ($1,000).
Ashlyn Hess will attend Lamar Community College and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She was offered the Kane Family Foundation Scholarship for LCC and UCCS ($60,000), Lamar Community College Service Area Scholarship ($1,000), Southeast Colorado Power Association Scholarship ($500), Joe Fernandez Scholarship ($1,000), The Grogan Family Memorial ($1,000), Holly Community Corporation Scholarship ($1,000), Old Timers Building Association Scholarship ($1,000), West Texas A&M Scholarship ($3,000), and the Lamar Community College Presidential Scholarship ($7,145).
Tiana Isley plans to attend the University of Oklahoma. Her scholarship monies includeTiana’s scholarship monies include: The University of Oklahoma Henderson Leadership Non-Resident Scholarship ($4,000), Arkansas River Power Authority Scholarship ($500), AGCO Company sponsored by H. Manning in Lamar ($1,000), Billy Dennis Memorial Scholarship ($500), Holly Community Corporation Scholarship ($1,000), and a Lamar Community College Service Area Scholarship ($1,000).
Fred Neuhold will attend Harding University. He received a Harding University Scholarship ($9,000) and a Lamar Community College Service Area Scholarship ($1,000).
Christian Orozco plans to attend Lamar Community College. His scholarship offers include a Lamar Community College Service Area Scholarship ($1,000), Seaboard Foods Scholarship ($500), Colorado Masonic Benevolent Fund Scholarship ($500), Barth Family Memorial Scholarship ($500), Edmond McKeever Memorial Scholarship ($1,500), Fellowship Credit Union Scholarship ($1,500), and a Holly-Hartman Alumni Association Scholarship ($500).
Austin Palmer was awarded a Lamar Community College Service Area Scholarship ($1,000)
Edgar Rodriquez has enlisted with the United States Navy and will be attending Boot Camp June 19-August 19 at Great Lakes IL. He will then report to Pensacola, Florida for schooling. Upon completion, he will be ordinance man with the United States Navy.
Sheridan Rushton will attend Lamar Community College. Her scholarship offers include the Lamar Community College Presidential Scholarship ($7,145), Lamar Community College Booster Club Scholarship ($1,000), Lamar Community College Service Area Scholarship ($1,000), Holly-Hartman Alumni Scholarship ($1,000), Lamar Community College Women’s Basketball scholarship ($2,800), Arkansas River Power Authority Scholarship ($500), Zonta Club of Prowers County ($1300), Murdoch Ranch and Home Supply Scholarship ($500 with a $100 Murdoch gift card), and a Fellowship Credit Union Scholarship ($1,500).
Lane Salzbrenner will be a student at Kansas State University. His scholarship offers include the Ray Charitable Trust Scholarship ($4,000), Kansas State University College of Agriculture Scholarship from Leiker Farms ($500), and a Lamar Community College Service Area Scholarship ($1,000).
Alejandra Tarango has been awarded a Lamar Community College Service Area scholarship ($1,000).
Drew Thompson will attend West Texas A&M University. He has been awarded the Chuck Urano Memorial Scholarship ($2,000), a Skyland Grain Scholarship ($4,000), West Texas A&M Scholarship ($2,500), Built Ford Tough Scholarship sponsored by Davis Motors in Syracuse ($1,000), Holly-Hartman Alumni Scholarship ($1,000), and a 4-H Foundation ($500).
Preston VanCampen will be attending Lincoln College of Technology. He earned the Lincoln College of Technology full tuition scholarship ($30,000) and a Lincoln College of Technology High School Select Scholarship ($1,000)
Steven Vazquez has been awarded a Lamar Community College Service Area Scholarship ($1,000).
