             Funeral services for Las Animas, Colorado resident, George “Al” Stoker will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Cloer officiating.  Inurnment will be held at a later date.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2014 at Horber Funeral Chapel in Las Animas.

            George Alfred Stoker, affectionately known as “Al” passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Bent County Health Care in Las Animas at the age of 80.  He was born July 21, 1933 in Las Animas, CO to Raymond A. Stoker and E. Doris (Haufel) Stoker.  Al had 4 siblings: Eleanor (Jack) Ashcraft of Las Animas, CO; Leland (Donna) Stoker of Burlington, CO; Clyde (Jan) Stoker of Nampa, ID; and Patty (Johnny) Miller of Cheraw, CO.

            Al was widely known in the community as a farmer, rancher and friend and as a 23 year employee of the City of Las Animas, Public Works, where he retired in 1996. He was quiet about, but proud of his service in Korea in the Army Combat Engineers. Al loved riding horses and was always ready to join in working cattle for himself or any relative or for any neighbor.  His pleasure in later life was with woodworking. His hand-made picture frames are prized by numerous in the area. Al was an active part of the extensive Phillips and Stoker families in the lower Arkansas Valley area.

            Al was married in 1959 to Billie Ann Davis. Later he married Virginia Pearl Phillips on February 16, 1963 and merged their families in Las Animas, CO.  There were 5 children: Elsie (Duane) Lacy of Aurora, CO, Alan (Irlene) Losey of Craig, CO, Francene Czillinger of Colorado Springs, CO, Don Stoker (Lisa Trigillio) of Las Animas, CO, and Brian (Dana) Stoker of Las Animas, CO. There are an additional 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren to make up his family.

            Al is preceded in death by his father, Raymond in 1999; mother, Doris in 2001; two infant grandsons, Kent and Keith Lacy in 1977; son, Alan in 1985; Alan’s wife, Irlene in 1986; sister, Eleanor in 1988; and his wives.
