Funeral services for William “Bill” Nordyke of Holly, Colorado will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2013 at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Holly, Colorado. Pastor Eugene Birt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Holly Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Holly.
William “Bill” Wilson Nordyke of Holly, Colorado, departed this life on December 26, 2013 with his wife and family at his side. Bill was born to Ralph and Fern (Hopkins) Nordyke on September 22, 1937, in Holly, CO. He attended school in Trenton, Nebraska, and in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
As a teen, Bill worked for Western Union delivering telegrams. He later worked for the XY Ranch before enlisting in the Army. Bill married Ruth (Steward) on August 20, 1960. Their first child, Monty, was born in Presidio, CA, while Bill was in the service. After an honorable discharge in 1963, the family moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where they had two more children, Debra and Michael. Bill spent 13 years working for Inland Frosted Foods where he enjoyed selling to many restaurants all over the Springs. He made many lifelong friends through his work. In 1976 Bill and Ruth moved the family to Holly where another son, Kirk Osban, made the family complete. Bill worked as a carpenter and also built the family home in Holly. He began work at Ranchers Supply in 1979. Ranchers was a source of fond memories and great friendships. He worked there until his retirement in 2005. Car racing was one of the things Bill enjoyed most. It was a family activity that always provided lively entertainment. He passed his love for cars and hot rods on to his children and grandchildren. The family was fortunate enough to enjoy a summer vacation almost every year visiting family in California and Oregon. There was nothing more important to Bill than family. He always made time for the kids. He was never too busy to listen, tell stories, and make them feel loved. He was proud of all of his children and grandchildren. Bill set an example for his family as a devoted husband. He cherished Ruth for more than 53 years.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Fern Nordyke; brothers, Donald, Dwight, and Dwayne; and sister, Avis Leaming. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Nordyke of the family home in Holly; one sister, Phyllis Mulbery of Crete, NE; sons, Monty (Sheila) Nordyke, Mike (Sandy) Nordyke, Kirk (Tammy) Osban all of Holly and daughter, Deb (Gary) Smith of Goodland, KS; grandchildren ,Raelyn Nordyke (Tommy and July Dunagan) of Ordway, CO, Tanner Smith (Kendal Forio) of Syracuse, KS, Keegan Smith of Newton, KS, Taylen and Kelbey Smith of Goodland, KS, and Hayden, Jace, Ryan, Brendyn, and Cael Nordyke all of Holly. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives, and many friends.
